Understanding the Montessori Method

The Montessori Approach to Learning

The Montessori Method is a child-centered approach to education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori (1870–1952) in the early 1900s. Rooted in her studies of medicine and psychology, it fosters independence, creativity, and critical thinking through hands-on learning. At Prestige Montessori, we embrace this philosophy by nurturing curiosity and a love for learning. Our prepared classrooms inspire exploration and allow children to learn at their own pace while building essential life skills.

What age groups does Prestige Montessori serve?

How is Montessori different from traditional schools?

There are no desks in rows facing the teacher standing at the blackboard. Indeed, there may not be a blackboard. Groups of children ranging in ages are working on joint projects. Some are more engrossed in their work than others. Some are sitting at tables or desks grouped together, while others work on the floor with multi-colored materials that draw their attention like a game. The teacher’s voice is rarely heard above that of the children talking quietly to each other as they work. There is a steady hum of activity throughout the classroom.

What are the students to teacher ratios?

Pre-Casa / Toddler – 1 to 5
Lower Casa – 1 to 8
Upper Casa – 1 to 13

Does my child need to be potty trained to start at the school?

For the Pre-Casa / Toddler program, your child does NOT need to be potty trained. For all other programs, the children DO need to be able to go to the bathroom independently. Some assistance may be given, such being helping with buttons on pants or changing, but each child must be able to go by themselves.

Are your teachers certified?

All of our teachers are fully certified, MACTE accredited teachers, and have completed anywhere from 400 hours to an entire year of in class observation and training. As well, all of our teachers must have at least 5 years of classroom teaching experience in order to teach at Prestige Montessori.
