Philosophy

The Montessori Method was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952). Her academic background in medicine, anthropology and psychology, combined with her observation of children, were the basis of her philosophy of education.

Maria Montessori’s scientific observation of children’s almost effortless ability to absorb knowledge from their surroundings, as well as their interest in manipulating materials, led her to develop her revolutionary educational method.

The Montessori approach recognizes that a child is more responsive to certain learning experiences at particular times or Sensitive Periods. With careful observation, the Montessori-trained directress recognizes the sensitive periods and is able to guide the child to new materials which will satisfy his/her developmental needs.
